There are regular bus lines along the D1 state road linking the cities Zagreb and Karlovac with coastal cities Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik. There are no direct bus lines to the northern part of the Adriatic, but visitors can change buses in Karlovac. During the high season (June to September), there are two direct bus lines linking the Plitvice Lakes National Park with Zagreb and Zadar. NOTE: All bus lines depend on individual bus operators and their timetables.
The closest train station is in the settlement of Vrhovine. However, there are no available taxi transfers or public transport lines to Plitvice Lakes from that settlement.
Visitors arriving from the direction of Zagreb can reach the Plitvice Lakes National Park by taking the A1 motorway to Karlovac, where they should leave the motorway and continue along the D1 state road in the direction of Slunj. The National Park is located approximately thirty kilometers away from Slunj along the D1 state road.
Visitors arriving from the direction of Split along the A1 motorway should leave the motorway at the Gornja Ploča exit, continuing from that point in the direction of Korenica. The National Park is located approximately twenty kilometers away from Korenica along the D1 state road.
